<hi style=afpcap>The North American F-86 Sabre was initially designated the P-86, with the A model being developed into a number of sub variants. The P-86B was cancelled in favour of the F-86C which was fitted with the Pratt and Whitney J48 engine producing 6,250 lbs of thrust. In addition the engine was fitted with an afterburner producing more power than the F-86. The nose intake replaced by flush intakes, and the wing span was increased slightly and the length extended by 6 ft. The changes were such that the Air Force elected to apply the designation YF-93A to the two prototypes. The aircraft A production order for 118 F-93As was cancelled in favour of the F-86D. </hi>
